A 142 acre aquatic park on Indian Island situated west and south of State Route 116 from the Portage Canal Bridge south to Marrowstone Island. Driving directions: From SR-19 take SR-116 East along Ness’s Corner Road to Port Hadlock’s 4-way stop light at the intersection of Ness’s Corner Road, Chimacum Road, Irondale Road and Oak Bay Road. Continue east on SR-116 along Oak Bay Road, then turn left following SR-116 along Flagler Road and cross over the Portage Canal Bridge. At the east end of the bridge, SR-116 turns south and immediately south of the bridge is the driveway to the: Portage Beach area of Indian Island Park. This area includes beach access, parking, the Lloyd L. Good Memorial picnic shelter, the north Portage Trailhead and a toilet. Continuing south on SR-116, the next driveway leads to the: Lagoon Beach N area. This area includes parking, a picnic area, a toilet and the south Portage Trailhead and the north Lagoon Trailhead. Continuing south on SR-116, the next driveway is a loop at the: Lagoon Beach S area. This loop includes beach access, parking and the north Isthmus Trailhead. Continuing south on SR-116, the next driveway is a loop at the: Isthmus Beach area. This loop includes parking, beach access, and the south Isthmus Trailhead. Further south on SR-116 are two pull-outs that offer views of the salt marshes between Indian Island and Marrowstone Island, Kilisut Harbor/Scow Bay to the north and Isthmus Beach and Oak Bay to the southwest. No beach access is available from these pull-outs. Property to the north and east of the pull-outs is privately owned and we ask that you not walk on the salt marshes. For your records: Portage Beach is mile post (mp) 2.87 Lagoon Beach N is mp 3.45 Lagoon Beach S is mp 4.10 Isthmus Beach is mp 4.50 These mileage markers are set along the side of the highway and are helpful in identifying the access areas.
Several dedicated volunteers care for Indian Island Park. Work includes mowing, garbage pick up, cleaning and stocking the toilet, and maintaining the trails. No Alcohol in Indian Island Park
“In the State of Washington it is illegal to open or consume alcoholic beverages in a public place" (see Title 66.44.100 of the RCW). This law applies in all Jefferson County parks, campgrounds, and recreation facilities. Exceptions to this law can be granted by the Washington State Liquor Control Board (see Title 314 of the WAC) in the form of a banquet permit or a special occasion license for example. All proposals to serve alcohol at an event in a Jefferson County Park are subject to approval by Jefferson County. For more information please contact Matt Tyler at 360-385-9129 or
Two miles of incredible sand beaches on Oak Bay with views to the south. Several very large lagoons with water channels, birds and more. Access to the Government Cut ship canal between Indian Island and the mainland. Two miles of nice, wide and scenic trails, through the uplands above the bluffs. A picnic shelter with grill. Two toilets. Best clamming in the area. Wonderful places for kids to play. Easy kayak launching from many places. Tidelands.
